Optimize Windows Services

Do you have unnecessary Programs on your hard drive?

The number of programs installed on your computer affects its processing capabilities, as there will be more data on the hard drive and more for the computer to sort through when running different processes. To streamline your hard drive and optimize speed, remove programs that you don’t use.

Begin with the Basic Add/Remove Program Feature

Windows Add/Remove is an easy way to uninstall programs that you don’t need.

  • Click Start, then Control Panel
  • Choose Programs, then Programs and Features
  • You will see a list of all the programs installed on your system
  • Select Uninstall to remove a program you don’t use
  • Enter your administrative code if asked, or press Enter
  • Repeat for all your unwanted programs
  • Restart your computer

Limit the Programs that Load on Start-up

Another great way to speed up your Windows experience is to limit or reduce the number of programs that are set to run when your computer is turned on. Freeware, program samples and limited time offers can be set to run in the background, taking up both CPU power and hard disk space.

You can generally see which programs are running by looking in the taskbar on the bottom right of your Windows screen. There are usually icons displayed for all the running programs.

To remove programs from the startup list using Windows Defender:

    1. Click Start, then All Programs, then Windows Defender
    2. Choose the Tools button, then Software Explorer
    3. Now, in the Category box, select Startup Programs
    4. Find the program that you want to disable from running automatically and choose Disable
    5. Click Yes to confirm
    6. You can repeat these steps for each program you want to remove
    7. Restart your computer

Limit your Current Running Programs

Since the more programs you are running, the more work you have to do, limiting the number of programs that you have open at a time will also optimize your Windows experience. Programs that upload and download data are especially laborious for your system – keeping running programs to a minimum will improve Windows performance overall.

Disabling The Windows Eye-Candy will Conserve System Resources Too

If you really want to boost your Windows performance, you might try disabling some visual effects to increase the program’s processing speed. You will lose some prettiness, since the visuals are there to improve the aesthetic experience, but you’ll notice the difference in time.

There are 20 different visual effects that you can manage, and you can ask Windows to choose what to disable or ask Windows to turn them all off – the second option is more extreme.

  1. Click Start, then Control Panel
  2. Select System and Maintenance and then Performance Information and Tools
  3. Choose to Adjust Visual Effects
  4. If asked for an administrative password, provide it or press Enter
  5. Choose the Visual Effects tab and then either Let Windows Choose What’s Best For My Computer (option 1) or Adjust for Best Performance (option 2)
