Increase Internet Connection SpeedEspecially for those who do a lot of browsing on the Internet, increasing your internet connection speed can be a worthwhile task. There are several strategies that you can use in your attempt to increase Internet connection speed. Upgrade the Service If you are currently using dial-up Internet service, the best step to take is to upgrade your Internet service to high speed Internet. Dial-up service is the slowest possible connection and no matter what steps you take to improve it, the connection is going to be limited. Check the Internet Connection Speed The first step is to contact your ISP and ask what your Internet connection speed should be. Next, test your Internet speed connection using one of the websites that offer this service. Compare the two findings in order to get an idea of how much improvement you will be able to accomplish. If these two numbers are not the same, then you should do some of the following troubleshooting to adjust them. Delete the Temporary Internet Files To speed up your Internet connection, delete the temporary Internet files including the browsing history and cookies. Decrease the number of days that your computer saves this information. Increase RAM If your computer has minimal RAM available, then you need to increase it. Adding RAM should speed up your Internet connection as well as other processes that you complete while using the computer. Offline Storage Web pages will load faster if you make web pages available offline or increase the amount of offline storage of the cache. To enable offline storage in Internet Explorer, open My Computer and select Tools. Open Folder Options and select Offline Files. Mark off the box in front of Enable Offline Files. Next, you need to select the files that you wish to make available. Open My Computer and select the files that you wish to make available and select the box labeled Make Available Offline. When the wizard opens, select Next and choose automatic synchronization. Select Next and complete any additional options such as desktop shortcuts. Select Finish. To increase offline storage in Internet Explorer, navigate to Tools, Internet Options, General, and Temporary Internet Files. Select Settings and adjust the number to a larger one. To increase offline storage in Mozilla Firefox, navigate to Tools and select Options. Select the Advanced feature, Network, and Offline Storage. Adjust the number of MB of space for the offline cache to a higher number. Defrag the Computer Running the disk defragmenter will organize your files into their proper location. This strategy can speed up your computer’s performance and processing capability. Run Scans to Remove Spyware, Viruses, and Adware Since the presence of spyware, adware, and viruses can negatively affect the speed of your Internet connection, it is essential that you download and install a reputable application to scan for and remove any spyware, adware, and viruses that exist on your computer. Several applications are available that will perform this task for you. It might be necessary to install and use more than one application depending upon what it is designed to do. Related articles
